The SLSWMA wishes to address inconsistencies in the Choice TV News Broadcast “In The Dumps” dated 12th November 2020.
The SLSWMA has decided to deny access to All individuals inclusive of coconut vendors from accessing the Deglos Sanitary Landfill after closing hours. This decision stemmed primarily from a safety perspective due to the fact that the tipping area is without lights and one could easily veer off the road and into a ditch, or into a soft spot and get stuck.
During the period in which individuals were allowed access after-hours, persons would dispose of waste in an inappropriate manner or location causing issues for operations the following day.
The Authority will take this opportunity to reiterate, that the operating hours of the landfill at Deglos and The Vieux Fort Waste Management Facility is from
- 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday – Saturday
- 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Public Holidays
- Closed on Sundays, Christmas & New Year’s Day
Persons requiring disposal of waste may do so during the said period. The Authority reminds members of the public that it is their responsibility to safely secure and store waste material until it is either collected by an authorized SLSWMA waste hauler or disposed of personally at one of the waste disposal facilities.
